Mississauga Musings

Hey there, Mississauga. Got to make this quick as I'm playin' Bop-a-Mole with close to a dozen Ontario Municipalities (no offense to moles).

So.

Recall last week's General Committee where The Unthinkable happened --a closed (in-camera) meeting was actually cancelled! There was enough cat-spat from Councillor Katie Mahoney to provide clues as to what might have been on the ever-so-secret "pink paper".

Last week, I speculated:

1. Mahoney initiated it --it was her idea.

2. It can be re-introduced at the same time next year.

3. It'll be on the agenda for this Wednesday's Council in-camera (secret, behind-closed-doors) meeting. (Can't wait!)

4. Parrish, Carlson and Adams are the holdouts on whatever it is.

5. Corbasson was away the entire meeting and both McFadden and Iannicca made themselves scarce with other business -thus neatly avoiding the Mahoney Meow.

At Yesterday's Council meeting I stayed to the bitter end --waiting until Mississauga Council emerged from behind their closed doors to announce whatever it is they'd announce.

Turns out that the personel in the "personnel matter" was the Mississauga City Manager, Janice Baker.

From my video transcript, a portion of the announcement:

"Now therefore, The Corporation of the City of Mississauga hereby reaffirms its confidence and support for the efforts of the City Manager to meet these challenges and to lead the city administration forward in a fullsome (?) and sustainable way, following the City's principles of Trust, Quality and Excellence."

Just like last week's General Committee there were three "hold-outs" not present for the recorded vote --Councillors Eve Adams, Carolyn Parrish and George Carlson.

[UPDATE: FRIDAY MAY 23, 2008. By chance I reviewed video of Wednesday's Council meeting and discovered to my dismay that Councillor Carmen Corbasson was present during the public part of the meeting! So me writing, "And also like last week, completely absent all of this meeting too was Councillor Carmen Corbasson." is incorrect.

Whereby Hazel McCallion states:

"But as a Council, we have to look at it from a Corporate Point of View. That's what we've done over the years. We don't operate like the Federal and Provincial government. Thank God. Thank God, I say again."

Absolutely no one is more prepared to "Thank God" that the Federal and Provincial governments don't "operate" like the Mississauga "Corporate Point of View" than The Mississauga Muse!
