ALL SORTS OF THIS'nTHAT'S
Directly from the I'm-An-Idiot-Department, yesterday I wrote:
TOMORROW! From 8 to 9 pm, EARTH HOUR, Mississaugans have a chance to view Mississauga City Hall about as dark as it can be (I mean without the staff and elected officials actually being inside...).
Well, while talking to my 80-year-old mother, she pointed out that it doesn't get even remotely-dark til about 8:30! (Forgive, but I was still thinking about Hawaiian-time, where when the sun sets, the sky turns an inky blue and descends quickly into India Ink with stars a-twinkling. FAST!)
So much for "Earth Hour Message to the Ontario Ombudsman" in "light-sticks" Semaphore. (I had an hour's worth of "Message" for Mr. Marin.)
THE AWAKENING OF COUNCILLOR PARRISH
You need to check out MissyNews Blogger/reporter, John Stewart's Random Access blog entry, "All in favour of a stay of execution?"
Seems that someone else has gotten a nasty surprise at the contents of a City of Mississauga "policy"!
Mr. Stewart writes:
"Ward 6 Councillor Carolyn Parrish finally got her hands on the City's standard operating procedure for its animal control shelter this week. Now she thinks she knows why some officials seemed so reluctant to part with it."
Wasn't it Parrish herself who insisted that Mississauga "isn't a secret society"?
(Click here to go directly to YouTube)
Umm... Message for Councillor Parrish. PSSSSssssttt. MISSISSAUGA IS A SECRET SOCIETY!
And some genius Mayor and Councillors would've had to APPROVE that Animal Services operating procedure, just like they pro-forma/approved the Mississauga Corporate Security "Code of Conduct/Public Complaints Procedure" last Wednesday. (The complaints form wasn't even designed yet for Council to approve. And that means that Monday's Audit Committee sure didn't see any Complaints Form. I know because it was made specially for me Wednesday morning after I asked for it!)
That's how this stuff happens.
MISSISSAUGA: STUFF HAPPENS
Mr. Stewart continues:
Parrish is incensed by a part of the policy which outlines what will happen in cases where stray dogs are picked up and there is doubt in the minds of officials about whether or not it is a pit bull.
That procedure calls for a "pit bull identification voting card" to be posted on the kennel of the dog in question.
"An e-mail will be sent by the Animal Services Manager regarding the location of the dog and the time span for the vote to all full-time officers and shelter cleaner. [sic]" Staff shall vote within five calendar days including the day the card is attached to the kennel.
"All full-time officers and full-time shelter cleaner [sic] are eligible to vote. Each staff member is allotted one vote per animal. Once the allotted time has expired, the voting card shall be removed and brought to the animal services manager for a tally of the votes. Should a tie occur, the animal services manager shall have the final and deciding vote."
HEY! COUNCILLOR PARRISH! CHECK OUT WHAT IS DONE TO HUMAN BEINGS!
John Stewart continues:
An incredulous Parrish says, "a dog's fate is decided by who walks through the room during the days that they are voting and whether they vote yes or no. The caretaker can be the deciding vote. And our manager only gets to vote to break a tie."
And if Parrish was "incredulous" about the Kill-the-Dogs Policy, she might consider taking an actual glimpse at the Violence, Vandalism/Bullying Policy that she and Council pro forma'd back in December 2006 --AND what Mayor and Councillors allowed Staff to sneak through on Wednesday. Those two policies affect human beings.
Back to John Stewart:
Mississauga Animal Control Manager Duilio Rose says the section of the procedure Parrish refers to is a strictly internal procedure which is used only for stray dogs when they fall into the grey area of pit bull resemblance.
"internal procedure"... hmmm... which I bet contains several occurrences of the words "appropriate" and "appropriately" and the phrase "will take appropriate action".
As a result of what John Stewart revealed in his important Blog entry, on Monday, MISSISSAUGAWATCH will drop down a Freedom of Information (FOI) request on that Mississauga Animal Services "internal procedure" (and any others), plus their records on dog/cat euthanization, plus... (well, Wayne, Mac's Gang... you tell me. What else should I probe?)
Now Mississauga Animal Services might be squeaky clean. I certainly would hope so. But if Animal Services "records" and "internal procedures" resemble what a year's worth of FOI's revealed about Mississauga Corporate Security's "records" and "internal procedures", well then, JEEZLY-PEETS Mississauga Boys and Girls, we have to start wondering how many other municipalities in Ontario... well, you know... are infested with surprises....
"SURPRISES." WHICH BRINGS US TO... PHOTO RADAR
Now that you've been prepped with the above, you'll understand completely why I asked the questions I did on Tuesday evening at the PHOTO RADARerrumm "AUTOMATED SPEED COMPLIANCE" public consultation meeting.
VIDEO: MISSISSAUGA PHOTO RADAR (Dedicated to Toutes Les Mississauga Beauts who Drafted, Approved-without-Discussion at the Audit Committee and then Approved-without-Discussion at Council last Wednesday, the Mississauga Corporate Security Code of Conduct/Complaints Procedure (with no Complaints Form in the document)!

For the last word on all this municipal-policies-stuff, here's email I got from the former Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, "Mr. Bill 130", John Gerretsen.
"The statutory responsibilities and duties of municipal enforcement officers are set out, not only in the Municipal Act, 2001, but in a number of other pieces of legislation as well, depending on the type of work they do. Most importantly, by-law enforcement officers are municipal employees; therefore, as municipal enforcement officers, they are expected to abide by the policies and rules (such as codes of conduct) the municipality has put in place as a condition of their employment.
In addition to an employee’s statutory duties, a municipality has the ability to establish its own accountability framework and to determine the policies they have in place for employees. Many municipalities already have such policies in place; therefore, you may wish to contact a specific municipality concerning their particular policies." (John Gerretsen, former Minister of Municipal Affairs. January 19, 2007 email)

We’ll I know thru my own former secret society meetings, the terms “euthanasia” are used in New Zealand to take the costs of seniors off the public health care system because the similar Workfare scenario in [Ed: Now, now Wayne. You know I can't "publish" that, darlin'.} propped up in facades of success”.
We’re not going to afford to look after our seniors unless McGuinty or somebody comes up with a restitution plan to repay the criminal default proceeeds instead of [Ed: WOW ARE YOU CRABBY today, Wayne. I agree with you but can't "publish" that either] into Red Herring Bill’s 132.
So far Gabriela and 8 year old Jasmine are being denied their “moral” and “legal obligations” by their Mississauga MPP’s to represent our “Petitioning the Assembly” that’s estranged Dalton McGuinty away from the same Derrick Owens revolver that killed 8 year old Kayla Rolland.

I was thinking the same thing as your mother.
Perhaps 10-11pm might have been a better choice if people think this one day of show matters. Perhaps 365 days of common sense might have more impact.
John`s blog entry.
I`ve left a few comments there. I guess they`ll show up on Monday. There are so much more that could be left. I should probably leave this one there but since you asked a question.
As far as what I`d like to know.
I`d like to know how many so called "Pit Bulls" have been slaughtered in Ontario since this crap (and there`s no other word for it) began.
I`m almost speechless at this point.
I wonder if Carolyn thinks Mac`s Gang should still lighten up. If I was the Mississauga Mayor or on Council, I`d be having a lot of sleepless nights wondering about the fallout if Rambo loses in court and the option to relocate out of Ontario is not put on the table by the Judge (as it should be).
I`d be working on that Carolyn.
I`m used to all the dogs (2000+) that have been slaughtered and Rambo will just become another sad statistic but I`m not sure others will see it that way. I hope that common sense prevails if there is a death sentence with no out.
Please do your best to make sure the "move out of Province" option is on the table if she loses.
Rambo couldn`t have possibly been "illegal" at the time he was picked up.He can only be "illegal" if and when the Judge finds that he is "SS"
As far as the "well meaning" staff,Dulio the Manager and the full time cleaner having no doubt that Rambo is a "Pit Bull"??
Wake the hell-o up!
Read some Ontario Blogs.
He can`t be what doesn`t exist!
And as far as the voting system goes.
Is it a "whipped" vote?
That`s how Bill 132 passed.
If it is,who`s holding the whip?
If it`s a free vote, what the hell-o are you people thinking?
Vote NO!
Go home and squash some lady bugs if you need to feel all powerful. [Ed: Mac's Gang, I don't think you mean that. A ladybug's life is just one life just like Rambo's life is one life.]
If the OVMA can`t discern the breeds that make up a mixed breed dog,I`m sure you "well meaning" folks can`t either!

Show me one single banned pure bred dog that has been picked up. If one has been found, I sure haven`t heard about it!
Carolyn Parrish made a great point on Rogers. Why go looking for trouble? When you pick up dogs that aren`t tattooed/microchipped/registered with a Club, they are MUTTS!
The Ontario bloggers are doing their best to bring Ontario to its financial knees over Bill 132. It may not be possible but the word is slowly but surely spreading around the world. The word is... Don`t travel to Ontario for pleasure or business and don`t support Ontario businesses.
Explain to the company, the town or city that it`s because of Bill 132 (The "Pit Bull" Ban) We want people to notify the tourism site for that particular city and send their letters to Peter Fonseca (Minister of Tourism)
http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/members/members_detail.do?locale=en&ID=2126
and also cc their letter to Mr Paul Miller(Critic)
http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/members/members_detail.do?locale=en&ID=7095
3 People from Kansas just refused (due to Bill 132) to attend a conference that they normally attend in Toronto each year. The Organizers are going to hold it in Montreal instead.

Small beginnings but it will spread. We`ll make sure of that. (sorry for the long post, feel free not to post it, it should be over on the other interesting Miss. blog)
And I would like to mention that the same people who care about animals are probably the same people who care about people unless you`re a PETAphile or some other whackjob from an extremist AR group. (Can`t take credit for PETAphile. Wish I could. The responsible party might not want their blog mentioned here in conjunction with this post)
And I can hardly wait for the explanation...
Umm... Message for Councillor Parrish. PSSSSssssttt. MISSISSAUGA IS A SECRET SOCIETY!
And some genius Mayor and Councillors would've had to APPROVE that Animal Services operating procedure,
I have committed that poem you mentioned to memory.
I`m trying really hard not to run out of Ontario.
THE END

[Ed: Mac's Gang, I don't think you mean that. A ladybug's life is just one life just like Rambo's life is one life.]
You haven`t been in my house in the country in May. THERE ARE MILLIONS
Just joking. PROBABLY JUST THOUSANDS
DON`T SQUASH THEM!
Pack `em up and send them to a Research Facility (save some furry animals) to help find a cure for Cancer and many other diseases.
Great post by a Cancer Researcher on the need for animal research (Yes it`s still needed)
http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2008/03/bad_scientific_arguments_in_the_service.php
Long read but well worth it.
As one poster pointed out to others after I posted about my dog having Cancer.
(BTW I do see the need for animal research at this point).
No matter how you spin it, hugs don't cure cancer.
Bohr said that the opposite of a profound truth is a profound truth.
1. I love my dog, and don't see any essential difference between her and lab animals.
2. I believe that scientific research is the best way forward, and is irreplaceable.
No way out of that one.
Animal Research benefits both humans AND our animals. There is no viable alternative at this point. So if they can use lady bugs as an alternative to dogs, I say pack up the lady bugs and send them.
Better them than dogs IMO.
Mind you I`d rather have thousands of ladybugs invading my house than dogs.
PETA and other extreme AR groups would consider them all equal to humans. I don`t. Animal Welfare v. Animal Rights. That`s one of the big differences.
BTW Ingrid Newkirk (Founder of PETA) has admitted taking pain medication (tested on animals)to ease the pain of a broken wrist. Another higher up takes Insulin (tested on animals)
If anyone thinks for a moment that this group is playing with a full deck, take a moment and read some of this.
http://jmac53.bravejournal.com/entry/26659
PETA`s Legal Beagle is presently threatening some well known bloggers with Libel unless he sees some retractions.
I wish I was one of them. I`m hoping for a "cease and desist linking" letter.
Missed ya when you were off line but you sounded like an addict looking for your next fix when you posted on John`s blog.
I know how you feel. I`m going to start (try) only getting on line on Wednesdays. It`s Sunday,I know. I`m not doing well. I need help.

This must be the stupidest piece I've seen in a long time. Now, really! According to this "news" piece, front page in Oakville country, hiring LAS boils down to saying: "the investigator won't bite the hand that feeds it!"
