RAMBOgate --and Don Barber's "reprieve"

LIFE HAPPENS

I've got to be at Brampton Court this morning --like out the door. Have to make this quick. Yesterday's Council meeting was one Eyeball-Opener. Stayed up most the night thinking about it. Think I finally fell asleep around 4.

But I wanted to get this "Rambo Motion" up on the Net because I knew people'd want to see it.

Here's the RAMBOgate MISSISSAUGA video for John Stewart who's been covering it in his Random Access Blog, Mac's Gang and Wayne "Guitar Man" Nagy who've got Rambo's back.

Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing

Attention News/Assignment Editors:

Media Advisory - Province To Honour Mississauga Mayor

TORONTO, Feb. 13 /CNW/ - Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Jim Watson will make a special presentation to Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion. GTA mayors and Mississauga MPPs have been invited to attend the ceremony.

DATE: February 14, 2008
TIME: 1:30 p.m.

LOCATION: Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
777 Bay St., 17th Floor boardroom

I heard about this Queens Park tribute to the Mississauga Mayor when I was still in Hawaii. Had planned on being there, complete with two Mississauga pole-sized flags, one huge protest sign, and two Lithium light-sticks to drop down some major Signals atop the highest piled-up Queens Park snowbank.

QUIS CUSTODIET IPSOS CUSTODES, HAZEL?

I'd been practising "QUIS CUSTODIET IPSOS CUSTODES?" in Semaphore and "QUIS CUSTODIET IPSOS CUSTODES?" is what my 15 foot protest sign would've said too.

But it was much more important for me to be in Brampton Court to bear witness to Donald Barber's brush with CUSTODES.

To my total surprise, the Court decided in Mr. Barber's favour. I still can't believe it, actually.

TOO TIRED AND *CRASHING*

Told ya'll that I stayed up most the night fretting and thinking too much --Mr. Barber's fate was on my mind.

Plus something happened in Council yesterday. This guy --he'd already been on my radar for other things I won't reveal. He was doing strange "Walkie-Talkie" things ducking behind Council chairs that raised my fear for Mr. Barber yesterday.

I'd seen "Walkie-Talkie" before --most recently during Don Barber's first return to Mississauga City Hall and Council Chambers. Barber just strolled into Council. I described my resulting surprise and anxiety in a November 22, 2007 Blog.

That November day stood out for another reason. I decided that for Mr. Barber's safety, I'd escort him out of Mississauga City Hall and the Civic Centre complex.

Just as Barber and I opened the south doors, the same "Walkie-Talkie" guy was coming in.

And Mr. Barber said, "He winked at me."

He didn't have to tell me. I saw it myself. "Walkie-Talkie" winked a wink-you-wouldn't-want-winked aimed exclusively at Mr. Barber. On Barber's first day back...

Now The Corporation of the City of Mississauga has a Respectful Workplace Policy such that if Barber winked at a City of Mississauga employee and that employee felt uncomfortable enough to complain, Barber'd have to answer for it.

But the other way 'round?...

Neither Mr. Barber or I even bothered to complain. By then Freedom of Information had confirmed Mississauga had no public complaints process, no record-keeping of complaints, plus numerous "no responsive records" for documentation that a reasonable person would expect to exist.

We knew as well that ultimately it would all come down to our word against those of a City employee. Gamz.

Today, as we left Brampton, I planted a second hug on Barber and then delivered the cheery news --that the CUSTODES won't exactly be Mother's Milk over this decision.....

What is Is.

Rambo’s another major issue that AMO’s only there to “Wag the Dog by the Tail” and all the more reasons it should have been dissolved to focus reinstallation of provincial responsibilities back onto Queen’s Park.

Using regional wishy-washing by-laws techniques to dispute our Chartered Mobility and Legal Rights only amounted to the increase of Mississauga property and personnel payroll taxes before Caledon’s Corporate property tax breaks took precedence over our disappearance of brokering T-4 slips.

So far Mississauga’s social services pooling has crapped out and gotten further away from the $54 billion HRDC EI surplus just on the occupation code omissions alone.

Hazel’s script writer’s obviously edited out her paragraph where she says Toronto has inevitably rebounded Mississauga’s off-loading exchange for its Animal Control Services in rebuttal to the "Pan Handling" issue Chief Mike Metcalf was ordered to enforce from the June 21 2007 Peel Council meeting when McGuinty was dishing out the Ontario Works in Peel NQI reward.

Thank you for posting this.

Mayzel looks like she has a migraine over this or is that her normal look?

Wayne do you think the public is inching closer to rioting over this waste of tax dollars?

Prime Minister Harper is telling us that Federal Charter Violations aren`t his business???

The Province passes stupid vague legislation and then dumps it on the Municipality to enforce.

Some Municipalities are practically kicking down doors to seize dogs and some Municipalities are snoozing.(South Glengarry)

I do give Carolyn Parrish credit for trying to do something.
That`s more than anyone else is doing.

But taxpayers???

Come on
WAKE THE HELL UP!!!

What the %$@%! is the matter with you people?

Connect the dots will ya?

And someone give Mayzel an advil for that Rambo headache.

It`s going to get worse before it gets better!

Gabriella DON`T back down!

Mississauga wants this to go away.

Don`t allow them to offer you a deal to send that dog out of Province now.

GO TO COURT!!!

Cut a deal to relocate him ONLY if the Judge rules against you.

And Gabriella,I would appeal a lower court decision.

Show the world just HOW much money, time and resources are being taken away from their cities due to Breed Specific Legislation.

The world is watching Mississauga and Mayor Hazel!

Thank you for trying Carolyn.

Take Dalton McGuinty and Chris Bentley out to lunch (insert joke here) and ask them what the hell they think they`re doing??

Then everyone should make a donation to

www.bannedaid.com

We`re trying to overturn Bill 132 so your Elected Officials can get back to business...REAL BUSINESS... not the puppy slaughtering business!

Fill up Mayzel`s inbox with emails.
Make her phone ring off the hook.
Make it so bad that she places a phone call to the Premier and begs him to make this stop!

Oh and I must say I`m very impressed with your Council Chamber and the video. It`s not near as impressive in South Glengarry.

Our Mayor hasn`t had to deal with this "Pit Bull" issue yet. I can`t seem to upset him.

Please move to South Glengarry with your illegalprohibited dogs.

It`s not fair that Mayzel has all the fun.

And last but not least,

To the Muse
Thank you,thank you,thank you.
This is NOT a dog issue.
It ties in to EVERYTHING you are doing.
Let`s hope the public wakes up and starts to connect the dots and if it takes a little puppy named RAMBO,so be it.

ARF!

I’ve missed the preview of 101 Dull-Mississaugans, so you’d have to give Harper's speech writer (Guy Giorno) a poke in the Face-book who originally authored the first of Mayzel’s 815 major bans.

Mayzel needs the second Advil for Mississauga’s $66 million a year Social Assistance Reform Pill when the GTA lightening rod hit Toronto that’s now blowing over to swap GTA Animal Control Shelters to even up the score with “Peel’s Pooling People” into Hamilton , the Niagara Peninsula and Toronto.

It’s this same “Zero Tolerance” practice put on Gabriella’s Miniature Boxer that MPP’s still resemble their first $111,000 welfare check before working the AMO way and now the Mulroney-Schreiber Ethics Committee.

Should I be getting residuals or something on that?
I knew some of you would like it.

The problem now is it’s the same MPP’s who voted in Mixed Member Electoral Reform Bill under the October 3 2007 Referendum are now long gone or shuffled out of Cabinet!

Nobody wanted nor called for either of 2 consecutive Ass Bills 132 and 155 passed on the same day? Rambo Tuesday 1 March 2005.

I just listened to this again and I must say that Mayzel talked down to Carolyn Parrish like she was admonishing a kid for sticking her hand in the cookie jar once too often before Supper.

As far as getting right on top of things Hazel....it sounds to me like you haven`t read Bill 132.
I would suggest you read the revised version (If you can find it) before your AC picks up more dogs.

Don`t go by the version on the Ontario Gov`t website.
Have a look at the Court case and the decision.

AG Chris Bentley is still pretending that they won.

There shouldn`t even be any discussion about sending Rambo out of Province at this point.

You people (Politicians) have to figure out what "Substantially Similar" means first, then a Judge will tell you if you were correct in your deliberations.
Get ready for dog owners to line up to face their respective Municipalities in court.

Only then will we send our Ontario Fiberal Pibbles out of Province.

You`ve put the cart before the horse.

It`s not as easy as you might think to identify a non existent "breed" of dog.

C`mon dog owners of Mississauga, march in and request your "SS" or "NSS" designation BEFORE you`re charged with owning a Fiberal Pibble.

DON`T purchase your Municipal license this year until you get a designation on your dog. Make them put it on their letterhead. That way they`ll be more likely to make sure they have the legal authority to designate.

I`ve been waiting 3 weeks for South Glengarry to designate this dog

http://jmac53.bravejournal.com/entry/26821

so I don`t unknowingly break the law.(Can you say Gabriella and Rambo?)

I`m sure my Municipality has better things to do...let`s hope. But they have no choice but to deal with this.

My Municipality will be hearing from my lawyer sometime after Feb 20/08

I hope you will all follow suit.

If Gov`t wants to judge dogs by breed/type/looks,then they better get busy! There are a LOT of dogs in Ontario. Note to owners of other Pure Breed dogs, there is no exemption written into the law for you.

If your dog is "Substantially Similar"?? (See why Mississauga needs to get the horse out front) to the 3 Banned Pure Breeds then you are breaking the law.

Mississauga can pick up ANY dog and claim it`s "substantially similar" to an Ontario Pibble.

Scary eh?

I don`t think it`s going to be business as usual for a very very long time in Mississauga and other Municipalities.

I wouldn`t try sweeping Rambo under the rug (or out of the Province) until a Judge rules on the "SS" factor.

Emily:

What a sad story. All of this over a dog that has never shown signs of aggression! How much money is your government spending on this?!

Hey there Mac's Gang,

You wrote:

But taxpayers???

Come on
WAKE THE HELL UP!!!

What the %$@%! is the matter with you people?

People (and especially the Media) let our governments call us "taxpayers" instead of "citizens".

I don't think that switch in government focus happened by accident. Research has proven that human beings are subject to (often live up to) expectations.

The government called us "taxpayers" and set the expectations. Taxpayers pay their taxes and that's what our governments wanted us to live up to.

By contrast, there's no end to the duties of citizens --the primary one being to involve themselves in how they are governed. To vote. To be proactive.

It's "inefficient" for a government to have residents who behave as "citizens" instead of just "taxpayers".

Just like Hazel McCallion wants "cooperative" councillors, it's in the interests of municipal governments to also have cooperative "taxpayers".

It's not in the government interest to have "cooperative citizens".

"Cooperative citizens" PAY ATTENTION. As you yourself pointed out Mac's Gang.

Here's the thing. Most people don't care about issues save one --their wallets.

Government knows that. So they try and keep the drain on voters' wallets minimal or go through terrific PR-lengths to remind people they'd be financially worse off with their political opponents.

This week we found out that the Trust Quality Excellence people essentially just provide the "minimum" stgandards for snow removal --meaning they meet the minimum of provincial legislation.

McCallion stated that if Mississaugans wanted "gold-plated service" they'd have to pay a lot more.

So the "Quality" of their slogan can mean "minimum Quality". And I guess somewhere, the corporate hacks think that you can still have "Excellence" with minimum standards.

It wouldn't surprise me that if a citizen began to investigate Mississauga Animal Services that they'd find the same thing.

Proclamations about Excellence and Quality but dropping down some Freedom of Informations would show the reality.

People aren't going to wake up.

Here's why. You wrote:

"To the Muse Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is NOT a dog issue. It ties in to EVERYTHING you are doing. Let`s hope the public wakes up and starts to connect the dots and if it takes a little puppy named RAMBO,so be it.!"

Exactly. "This" that I've been writing about --"This" is how governments treat people. They do all they can to minimize political dissent. Some will ignore people's voices until people are so frustrated that they are banned from contacting officials again --or in the case of Antonio Batista and Don Barber --arrest them.

Some countries kill dissidents. Ours drags their through the legal system forcing them to pay thousands and thousands of dollars to defend themselves.

Our governments allow developers to drop down a multi-million dollar lawsuit when on a Ratepayers' group when they try and oppose development plans.

Knuckle-dusters. Lawyers. Same effect. It silences all but the $Powerful$.

You say "ARF". I say "GRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr".

If it isn’t the stench of another Brian Mulroney/Mike Harris culture shock in Free Trade that’s further short sighted in Bill 132, Mississauga City Councils had already led the way into Chinese junkets that’s just as over whelming as the St Bernard goulash lobbying groups would love Rambo’s “ Pooling” their pelts to be cleaned half way around the world.

What’ll be next on the Toronto Stock Exchange ? Dr.Amit Kumar exchanging recipe ideas with Martha Stewart on Kidney pies ?

"People (and especially the Media) let our governments call us "taxpayers" instead of "citizens".

You are bang on and from this moment on I will refer to the public and myself as citizens and drop the taxpayer tag.

"By contrast, there's no end to the duties of citizens --the primary one being to involve themselves in how they are governed. To vote. To be proactive."

After the Oct 10th election I asked a close acquaintance
whether she had voted?
She said no.
I said it`s your duty to vote.
She answered "I pay my taxes. I should have the right not to vote"
~50% turn out I believe.

Apparently they`ve done quite the sales job on the taxpayer vs. citizen.

"Some will ignore people's voices until people are so frustrated that they are banned from contacting officials again --or in the case of Antonio Batista and Don Barber --arrest them."

Some frustrated people take it one step further....and I think you know what I`m talking about. I`m not going to say it or repost the link.

I don`t condone it but when you take on Gov`t you start to understand that level of frustration.

"Just like Hazel McCallion wants "cooperative" councillors, it's in the interests of municipal governments to also have cooperative "taxpayers".

I`m surprised that the one "rebel" on council agreed to that 2 week deferral. That must have been quite the slap down for the "law is an ass..." comment.

When Carolyn Parrish made that comment, she was putting being a human being ahead of being a politician.
More of them should give that a try if they remember how.

It had been suggested that I run for council in the past...I could never sit on council...the Mayor would ban me or have me arrested.

I will always be a human being first!

Carolyn, You can probably do more for the citizens of Mississauga by NOT being on Council. Mayor Hazel might have less control over you.

I wonder what will happen if and when Rambo is killed?

I hope the "cooperative taxpayers" of Mississauga will at least ask for a tally of the costs leading up to his demise.
They deserve to know that.

I hope his supporters who are protesting his demise are all polite, compliant, "cooperative taxpayers".

I don`t think any of the "dissidents" have reached the point where their Country has to kill them but I do see that day coming in Canada.

Sad but true.

I`ll just write letters, post on forums, vote, donate to lawsuits against the Gov`t and drop the "taxpayer" tag.
I`m not a "cooperative taxpayer"
I`m not even a "cooperative citizen" anymore.
I`m going to adopt one of those "special" illegal Ontario dogs that continue to be born.
They can`t read laws.
I hope my Country doesn`t have to resort to killing me.
I don`t know what they do when you refuse to turn over the crack cocaine...I mean the puppy.
But if they feel they have to take me down....so be it.
I`m prepared to die for Democracy in Canada.

Be a human first Carolyn. It`s not all that important to sit on Mississauga Council. I think people like you can do more from the outside.

How about contacting Rick Mercer about the ONTARIO CITIZENS fighting for Democracy on behalf of CANADIAN CITIZENS?

I`m sure "dead puppies walking" would be good for a laugh or two. I find myself chuckling constantly.

Maybe Mayor Hazel would appear as herself.

I`m joining you Muse
GRRRRRRRrrrrrrr
on behalf of my "special" illegal puppy.

I`m thinking of moving to Mississauga. Move over Rambo.

Kerry:

Hey Macs Gang

I heard that Rambo and Munchie have made headlines all over the world?? India and Texas?? Guess Ms Parrish was right when she said the public are starting to think that Mississauga does not care... Whats up with Munchie?? Next thing they will be saying my Englishsetter looks like a banned breed:-((( Come on Toronto wake up.. Tie Domi looks more like a banned breed the Rambo or Munchie..

http://www.mississauga.com/article/11363

Dress appropriately when you`re charged with "possession of "special" puppies" in Ontario.

Yeah, I`m FED UP!

President of DDOC(Defiant Dog Owners of Canada)
and CANADIAN CITIZEN

That`s right Hazel!

Some of us don`t blindly follow the law just because it`s the law.

Because some of you are just too stupid to be passing laws!

Apparently,I`m a racist!

Someone didn`t have the [Ed: I'll drop in the word "guts" in place of Mac's Gang's actual anatomic reference) to say it here.

Well let me straighten out that coward.

Canadian Laws should apply to all Canadians.
I don`t happen to think our laws should be changed to accommodate other cultures.

If I was to move to another country I would fully expect to comply with their laws and I wouldn`t seek an exemption.

If I didn`t like their laws(the ones that apply to everyone), I wouldn`t move there.

There are a few solutions for the person that called me a racist.

1)Don`t drive a motorcycle.

2)Move to a country that doesn`t require the wearing of a motorcycle helmet.

3)Find a company that will design a helmet that complies with Canadian safety standards and laws.

4)Try to have our Canadian Law that requires the wearing of motorcycle helmets(by everyone) overturned using your own money.

But if you manage to overturn it, that applies to all Canadians.

I`ve booked an appointment with my United Church Minister to see if we can come up with something regarding a Peace Officer having the right to enter my house without a warrant to seize a puppy.

I have a feeling members of other cultures that have come to Canada wouldn`t be subjected to some of our "special" laws.

If that makes me a Racist, then so be it. I`m a proud Racist.

Clean up your rant (which couldn`t possibly be posted on any blog)and feel free to respond.

Or maybe you can use the Canadian Charter to prevent me from expressing my opinion.

Isn`t that Charter great!
...for some.

Defiant and possibly Racist.

From The Mississauga Muse

Mac's Gang, I don't unusually add my comments right underneath a reader's comments but I felt that I had to this time.

It's easy for people to drop down the R-card. I read about that motorcyclist wanting to keep his turban. I don't have the answer and I'm glad that I don't have to make that decision --its very diffcult.

I don't have the time to respond properly. What I will do is make a video of something Hazel McCallion said at General Committee yesterday bemoaning the loss of tradition. How she sees a time when even Christmas won't be a holiday any more.

Idiots can interpet her comments as "racist" but that doesn't make Madam Mayor one and only confirms the accuser is an idiot.

Hang tight on that video though, man. I have to finish one on my local Hypocrisy Democracy.

Don Barber "Like they walked into ghost"

Hey there, Wayne,

Hookeyyyy... Ya know I felt badly when I had to edit that previous comment of yours.

And then I followed that YouTube United Way link.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ImbcnhtbAEg

You asked:

"Well what do you make of this? Adding comments have been scripted out and disabled for this video too?"

I'd say that the United Way has zero interest in feedback from the public.

I'd say from disabling the commentary that the United Way has only One Way and that's the United Way "message".

Above all, this disabling of comments (and I suspect you can't link videos either) forces me to raise the question, "Is the United Way a corporation"?

Get this. Did you know that someone at the United Way phoned and asked me not to show the Youth Violence plaque ceremony featuring Former Premier Bill Davis because a kid was involved?

And that she'd get back to me to discuss things further?

I'm still waitin...

I'll look at the video when I have time, Wayne. Right now I get to back to the Mississauga Community Engagement Visionning Charrette.

Ta ta...
