2007 was the year of Transparency and Accountability --meaning, it's really Transparent how there's no Accountability. Transparency... Accountability... how we saw those words mangled over the last year. (Thank you, Duguid et al).
Transparency... Accountability --and what's the other word?-- Trustqualityexcellence. Ah yes, word-a-wash in MississaugaSpeak.
Words like (in alphabetical order):
Accountability, Agenda, Audit, Award, CorporateSecurity, Excellence, Freedom, Independent, Information, Integrity, Investigation, Investigator, Lost/Found, Minutes, Quality, Pelco, People, Policy, Privacy, Procedure, Public, Record, Responsible, Retention, Road, Rubber, (Public)Space, Stakeholders, Surveillance, Taxpayer, Transit, Transparency, Trust, Vibrant, etc etc
And phrases like:
"refer it to staff"
and my absolute-personal-favourite phrase from the Mayor Herself:
"I'd like staff to comment."
And as fascinating as "MississaugaSpeak" is, it's "MississaugaG--A-P-------S" that spews volumes. Like sub-lethal bacteria, G--A-P-------S work their magic in a spectacular variety of forms.
"MississaugaSpeak" and "MississaugaG--A-P-------S" define Mississauga and Future Mississauga.
Above all, they explain why Mississauga Council chose their own investigator to slam the lid on the Ontario Ombudsman.
It's all led me to conclude that being a Mississauga councillor is one of the easiest "positions" in Canada --and one of the most financially rewarding. It would appear that the only challenging part to the councillor "station" is that initial lunge to the trough. (I use "positions" and "station" because having observed Mississauga Council since June 14, 2006, there's no way I'd refer to councillor as a "job".)
You've been mississauga'd if you believe that.
So ends 2007...
