"I think what I'd like to stress is when we employ the Taser, who actually employs the Taser and actually the training that's involved. And I think it's important for the Public to know." --Peel Police Chief, H. M. (Mike) Metcalf

TASER TASER TASER
Tuesday's Peel Police Services Board Meeting was one for the books. Ho yeah.
And since I'm the only member of the public to have ever attended a Peel Police Services Board meeting, I can say with complete confidence that EVERYBODY really missed something!
I got to see a Peel Regional swivel-chair being Taser-ed! I even got to videotape its reaction (none).
Peel Regional Police, Sergeant K. McCowell and Constable J. Rego, gave the presentation "Use of Force – Peel Regional Police Taser Information" on the use of Tasers by Peel Regional Police.
For anyone who hates carpet or door knob shocks this was one Must-See presentation complete with Question and Answer period.
Check out the video below for the Taser Presentation. Highlights include a video clip of Constable Rego being Taser-ed at a police conference he attended in the States. To date, Constable Rego has allowed himself to be Tasered twelve times!
Citizens can be assured that the Taser helps make the difficult job of policing safer for our officers. We can also be assured that we're protected by officers who are tough-gutsy enough to volunteer for "rides" with a Taser.
The presentation includes video demonstrating the difference in effectiveness between the Taser vs pepper spray (one clip shows a subject with a snootful of pepper spray still being able to whack a bat a dozen times vs. a Tasered bat-wielder dropping like a sack of compliant potatoes before his first swing.)
There's a campaign right now about Workplace Safety. There's zero doubt that Tasers make it safer for Peel Police officers --especially when they're forced to face a 300+lb Belligerent coming at them complete with hammers for fists.
(I can also see the value of a personal-Taser when observing Mississauga Council but I digress...)
Moving Forward...

I guess now's the best time to thank Peel Regional Police for providing me with a safe harbour on the last Friday of every month. My weekly experiences documenting the bleak corrosive-to-the-soul activities of municipal council meetings is just so crippliing and demoralizing. They make you lose Faith in Canada.
And then comes that last Friday --and Sanity Happens-- and it's like enough government caked-crud gets rinsed off me that I can steel myself for the next month's municipal suffocation.
So, thanks.
To all Peel Regional Police personnel, a happy and above all SAFE holiday.
HERE''S TO YOU, PEELERS!
