As everyone in Mississauga knows, Mississauga has been Canada's Safest City seven years in a row. How do Mississaugans know this? Because we were told by The Corporation of the City of Mississauga. Observe --from the Mississauga website.

Mississauga Safest City in Canada – Seven Years Running

Dec 20, 2006

For seven years in a row, Mississauga is Canada's safest City when compared with other major Canadian cities, according to a report commissioned by the Mississauga Crime Prevention Association (MCPA) and prepared by Intercon Security. The study compared Mississauga's crime rate against Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver."

Canada's Safest City seven years in a row WOW! That's certainly some-kind-of-enviable. (Never mind, that no one at the Mississauga Crime Prevention Association could tell me how the other eight "compared with" cities in the study were selected --seven years in a row is still some-kind-of-enviable.)

Looks like Big Yellow commissioned a security company to do the --WHOA, WAIT, "Intercon Security"... umm.... wait... isn't that a private security company?

And didn't we just read all manner of hub-bub about Ontario's private security industry...

I can't wait til December! That's when Mississauga gets to release its latest commissioned Intercon Security 2007 Safe City results and we get to read once again about Mississauga's Safe City status!

Me-thinks that Brampton may have piddled on the Mississauga Safe City Parade and straight into Big Yellow's morning coffee as well. (They got to be grinning ear-to-ear up there in Tulip Town.)

Got this in my email yesterday via Peel Region that will make things oh-so-interesting for us municipal observers (all half dozen of us) come December.

You see why I can't wait until December's release of the Corporation/Mississauga Crime Prevention Association/Intercon Security's 2007 Safe City Report?

Back to the Toronto Sun article:

"We're very excited," said Larry Zacher, executive director of the Brampton Safe City Association. "It gives recognition to so many people that have contributed to safety."

Now I don't want to take anything away from the Brampton Safe City Association but whenever I see "Safe City" I think of the logo on our Peel Regional Police cruisers.

I read The Brampton Guardian online (remember about bum-backwards research? Well to study Mississauga, you also have to study Brampton as well) Anyway. There was a Letter to the Editor from a police officer. On the many frustrations of his job, he wrote:

"The saddening bureaucracy of the job, the lack of public support, and courts and politicians can disillusion the materialistic cop."
