This- is Mississauga.
At the April 25, 2007 Council Meeting, regarding, Cars and the Environment, Mayor Hazel McCallion stated:
"And we have to set an example. (pause, looks around) And I hope that your report in six months or whenever will tell me that as the cars go out of the parking lot at night, there won't be one person per car."
Plenty of City heads bobbed in agreement.
Me, I just grinned. For I knew that it was "six months or whenever" (September 6, 2007 actually) when Mayor McCallion urged the same thing! And with similar effect.
Here are her comments on Cars and the Environment back in September.
"I'd like to see what we're doing in regards to pooling of Staff because as I go out of the City Hall at night, it's the same going on at City Hall as it is on the Queen Elizabeth --one person per car. ..So, sometimes, you know, you have to practise what you preach. I'd like to be sure that we're doing something internally in regard to pooling."
Here ya go. Video of Mayor McCallion's April 25, 2007 and September 6, 2006 comments combined.

RELATED TOPIC
This is mainly for those who can't view today's two videos easily. In my last Blog (June 16, 2007) I wrote:
"And that "most sanitized "RaRaMississauga" government line" is so pervasive that it extends right into the minutes of every General Committee and Council meeting."
So. How did Hazel McCallion's April 25, 2007 comments:
"And we have to set an example. (pause, looks around) And I hope that your report in six months or whenever will tell me that as the cars go out of the parking lot at night, there won't be one person per car."
translate into the Council minutes?

Yep, the ever-vaguely-worded:
"She suggested that car pooling, turning off lights in the Civic Centre, gridlock and idling are just a few examples."
Quite the comma after the word "pooling" --seems to me it's a hard-working beleaguered form of punctuation on a doomed mission expected to mean "of City Hall Staff".
Here's the Mississauga City Hall Car Pooling Initiative Video for the record complete with minutes.

Unfortunately, the Minutes of General Committees evaporate from the mississauga.ca website in less than five months. That means citizens would have to go to the City Clerk's office to see what McCallion's September 6, 2006 "So, sometimes, you know, you have to practise what you preach. I'd like to be sure that we're doing something internally in regard to pooling." translated "into" in the General Committee Minutes...
Today, I'll find out.

P.S. Since her City Hall Staff car pooling comments were made on April 25, 2007 and this is June 19th, almost two months have already been used up.
So let's start a POOL of our OWN .
Regarding Car Pooling of City Hall Staff:
1. Something will be done.
2. What Car Pooling of City Hall Staff?
3. Something will be pretended to be done.
4. Other.
Put a Loonie down for me on Option 3.
