Mea culpa.
Hugh Arrison is not a retired financial consultant — he is very much an active one who specializes in international work.
The R word was used by mistake in the entry in this space about Major Ted Optiz jumping into the race in Mississauga South.
Arrison worked for three decades at an international financial services company in Mississauga but has spent the last few years running his own company out of his home in the riding. He is financially independent but that's not quite the same as being retired, he points out with a laugh.
Turns out Arrison has actually been thinking about dropping out of the race because of his disappointment in the process. He was second into the fray, in Oct. 2006, after Clarkson lawyer Tom Simpson and before school trustee Don Stephens and financial institution manager Raya Shadursky.
Arrison says he's staying in the race after having plodded door-to-door and sold 1,000 memberships. An encouraging letter from Harold Shipp and a meeting with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty helped convince him to hang in.
The party, which has not released Mississauga South to hold its nomination, is holding its cards very close to its chest, says the candidate. "If some incredible star shows up, I think they like this riding because they think it's winnable," he says.
The downside, of course, is keeping community-based local candidates suspended in mid-air and blowing in the political winds for months and months. "If we do have a fast election, we're at a serious disadvantage," says Arrison.
His campaign manager, on the left above, is David Brown. No, not recent provincial candidate David Brown but the former tennis player (five consecutive Canadian doubles championships from 1972 to 1976 with four different partners) who is in the Mississauga Sports Hall of Fame. He and mom Louise are the only mother-son combo in the local hall.

Rambo is moving up in the world.
Seems he has a room of his own, glass walls and all and even a personal doggie door to an outdoor washroom at the Mississauga Animal Control Centre on Central Pkwy. W.
Ward 6 Councillor Carolyn Parrish, who plans to spring the most famous dog in Mississauga from the joint, visited the dog Friday when animal staff gave her a mini-tour.
"He's got loads of toys and a quilt and he wags his tail like crazy when he sees people," says Parrish. "They take him on dog walks. He looked happy as hell."
He apparently has to be kept in isolation from other dogs because of his unusual status (is that legal or celebrity?)
The jailhouse visit convinced Parrish that the dog is not guilty of being a pit bull as charged. "He looks like a small version of a boxer. He's too tall to be a pit bull."
Other, perhaps more expert, opinion on the dog's formation and likely lineage is expected to be heard in a courtroom at a later date when owner Gabriela Nowakowska goes to court to try to prove Rambo doesn't belong on death row.
Gabriela still calls the animal control centre incessantly to check on the condition of her dog but has apparently accepted the fact that having a personal visit with him would be just too upsetting for all parties involved.

To all the woulda, coulda, shoulda people that think Ontario Dog Owners should KNOW whether they own a "Substantially Similar" dog(a.k.a an Ontario "Pit Bull") BEFORE they are charged.
How?
If it`s so easy to make that determination, why won`t they make it upfront.
I guess you find out when your neighbour complains about something or your dog gets out of your yard.
And before anyone takes a shot,
Great news Carolyn and no shot intended.
Hope everyone on all the "anti Bill 132/my dog is in trouble" petitions have sent their $20 to
www.bannedaid.com
(I know many have)
to help pay that Law Firm that is "killing" Bill 132 in Ontario.(slowly but surely)
Or they could split their $20 donation.
You know there are going to be more dogs and people charged.
And I`ll ask once again
Could someone possibly tie Gabriela`s trust account to a Paypal account.(all that is needed is an email address.)
I sent the paypal info to an email address that was provided.
I have seen that paypal request on a number of forums around the world.
I think you`ll get more donations.
Thanks for the update.
And I`ll offer once more..
If the authorities will spring Rambo, but not to Gabriella,I`ll board him at my home for free until he`s proven innocent.
"Up Yours Dalton" is lonely.

Hey gang. It's fabulous that we have thousands of signatures on a petition for Rambo. It's wonderful that Gabriela is being encouraged to fight back. And it's great that the appeal case against the legislation is collecting donations in the thousands. But, and there's always a "but," our little mixed-breed dog Rambo goes to court a week Friday, February 29th, at 950 Burnhamthorpe Road West. As well, Gabriela's account could use some small infusions of cash for research needed by some experts in preparation for Rambo's court appearance. Her lawyer is working for very, very little pay. The account is at the TD Bank under 'Gabriela Nowakowska In Trust' and deposits can be made at any TD Canada Trust Branch by quoting the account name. If everyone on the petition put in $20.00 we'd have enough for the research and for the "bail" money we may need to spring the poor boy from jail! And before anyone takes a shot, I've put my money in and harassed my friends and family to the tune of $1500.00. Hope to see a good crowd on the 29th!

I'm a second generation Canadian(Ontarian) and I must say, I have never been more embarrassed and ashamed to call this place home. It seems we as a society have taken 3 steps back. The BSL has done more harm then good and they have missed many vital facts and overlooked the statistics, for if these "people" had done their homework the BSL would not have existed in this once lovely province.
These "people" have single handily murdered innocent animals, broken up families, and forced families such as my own to walk on eggshells.
They have forced fear into the hearts of many not based on facts but based on ignorance and for that they should hang their heads in shame.
If they really wanted to protect families and our society then they should have done their research, educated adults and children on the mistreatment of animals and the abuse that is overlooked on a daily basis. The mistaken identities of breeds. I, like many others HAVE done our homework, our research, and our information is just that, FACTS. The attacks dipicted in the media were NOT always that of a Pit Bull or a Staffordshire Terrier but that of a mixed breed with similar characteristics. Not only were they a case of mistaken identities but what the media so happen to exclude is the way these animals were treated, chained up, abused, malnourished, starved, locked up etc. They were NOT loving companions as mentioned, they were a product of their owner, their home, their environment.
Rambo, a beautiful 10 month old pup sentenced to death because of looking a certain way and born to late.
Munchi, not even close to resembling a Pit Bull, who him and his owner were threatened at knife point. They want to save our society from violence, and protect us? What about the man with the knife?
I hope these "people" sleep well at night knowing all this, while the rest of us fight to save the lives of our family, our best friends.
The blood on their hands stains deep. I do however hope they get the chance to meet a loving pit bull, a staffordshire, a bull terrier, I hope they touch their hearts as they have so many others. The nanny dogs, the therapy dogs, the hero's, the companions, the ones who greet all humans with a wag of their tail and a lick on the cheek, the ones right there, under their feet, doing all he can to please you, keep you safe, to cuddle you, to listen to every word. I hope they do have the pleasure of a friend so loyal.
My son is a Pit Bull and I will fight to save my son and my family.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Kelly Gibbins

Believe me,he`s watching this.
Make sure to cc correspondence to Christine Elliott.
She`s the Attorney General Critic.
He knows what`s going on.
Here are John Tory`s comments that he sent to me BEFORE the election.
Hello
I appreciate receiving your e mail.
I have repeatedly stated that I believe the correct and sensible way to deal with the threat posed by dangerous dogs is to have in place legislative provisions which deal with all dangerous dogs of all kinds and with irresponsible owners, as opposed to breed specific legislation.
As we pointed out at the time of Mr. McGuinty's politically and showbusiness motivated legislation banning a single breed, even the definition of that breed was vague and invited ridicule by including dogs which looked like other dogs.
Dangerous dogs and irresponsible owners represent a serious matter which therefore requires a serious response, not the kind of publicity-motivated approach taken by Mr. McGuinty.
The law should speak to what the dogs and their owners do over who they are and thus we will get at the dogs and owners which pose the threat.
I appreciate this opportunity to be in touch with you.
Chris Savard has certainly made me aware of your concerns with respect to this issue.
He is an accomplished, diligent man who will speak up for the people he represents, as he has done in this case.
Best wishes.
(I wonder how many suicides have Ontario municipal government neglect as a co-factor...)
I think you can extend that to Provincial and Federal.
That would be quite the Gov`t study.
I happen to know a few families personally that can
"Thank" Gov`t for that little extra push over the edge.
I imagine there are some caretakers of aged parents and Autistic children that are considering it.
I imagine there are Seniors that can`t afford medicines that are thinking of it.
Gov`t isn`t about or for the people anymore if it ever was.
I`m sure there will be some suicides/deaths attributable to Bill 132.
There have already been some suicides worldwide attributed to beloved lifelong companions being seized and killed.
It`s just a matter of time in Ontario before a person dies due to this.
I wonder if Dalton will wake up then?
Maybe they can BAN suicide, to prevent it from happening.
That seems to be their answer for everything
It used to be illegal.
I don`t think that stopped people from trying though.
If Gov`t thinks there aren`t people considering suicide or....if a family pet is seized and killed for no reason, they should think long and hard about that.
They just haven`t seized the right or (wrong) pet yet.
Gambling.....?
Clement just said blah,blah,blah...... on the box behind me.

Good news Mississauga
I was just looking at a letter sent to a member of Rambo`s fan club.
The entire letter is quoted below but here`s the interesting tidbit:
Pound keepers have the authority to send these prohibited pit bulls out of the province, transfer them to a research facility, or destroy them.
Rambo is NOT prohibited until he has his day in court and then ONLY if the Judge rules that way.
So Gabriella
Bottom line:
Stick to your guns.
Very good chance you`ll win but take door #1 if the Judge rules against you.
Get that in writing before your court date.
You lose
Rambo relocates
And I`m sure your lawyer is asking for costs.
Visit your dog every day Gabriella.
Make sure there is no "oops" moment.
I know I`m never that thrilled to have a visit from a politician and I doubt that Rambo is either, even if it is the only Municipal Politician that has spoken out against this insanity.
Rambo needs to see you.
And if you want to laugh hysterically, read the rest of the BS.
Thank you for your e-mail of January 26, 2008, regarding the pit bull ban and a recent pit bull case in Mississauga. We are responding on behalf of the Ministry.
At the outset, please note that municipalities are primarily responsible for animal control. This includes enforcement of the Dog Owners’ Liability Act (DOLA). While the legislation does provide municipal officials with significant new legal powers in relation to dangerous dogs, local officials make specific decisions regarding enforcement. As such, the Ministry of the Attorney General is unable to comment on specific cases or on the specific enforcement practices of municipalities and/or police.
A peace officer who seizes a pit bull under DOLA must deliver the seized dog to a pound. Pounds are facilities used for dogs that are detained for purposes of municipal by-laws or DOLA. Pound keepers have the authority to send these prohibited pit bulls out of the province, transfer them to a research facility, or destroy them.
Prior to the passage of the DOLA amendments banning pit bulls, opponents and supporters were given ample opportunity to provide their opinions. The ministry is extremely familiar with the arguments against the breed ban and gave them the utmost consideration. While the sincerity of those opposed to the pit bull ban cannot be doubted, the priority is increasing the public safety of the people of Ontario. We are all aware of the horrific incidents that have happened in Ontario. One attack is too many, and the government continues to do all it can to keep the public safe from vicious dogs.
No one disputes the fact that dogs of all breeds and types can attack. Be assured that the amendments toughened the penalties for the owners of any dog that poses a danger to the public, by doubling fines up to a maximum of $10,000, and allowing for jail sentences of up to six months for individuals who own dangerous dogs that bite, attack, or pose a threat to public safety. The legislation also allows fines up to a maximum of $60,000 for corporations who own such dogs.
We set high standards for responsible dog ownership in the province of Ontario, and we are building safe, strong communities for all Ontarians
Once again, thank you for writing.
